I am increasingly incorporating Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) into my therapeutic work. It is a research-based therapy founded on a combination of philosophies from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Evolutionary Psychology and Attachment Theory. It is particularly helpful if you experience high levels of self-criticism or shame. It develops knowledge of our ‘tricky’ brains, increasing self-care and using the compassionate self we have inside ourselves to help address the difficulties we are experiencing.
